Private

The process of renting private accommodation should begin at least one month prior to arrival in Split. Students should seek private accommodation options independently. ESN Buddies are available to assist students in finding appropriate accommodation.

Monthly rent in private accommodation ranges from EUR 150 (bedroom in shared apartment) to EUR 400 (single use studio apartment), depending on the location, room size, accommodation quality and facilities. Utilities such as electricity, heating, water and Internet connection are usually not included in the rent and students cover them separately. The property owners often request a security deposit in the amount of one monthly rent, as insurance covering possible damages in the apartment, which is refundable before leaving.

Students should keep in mind that it is important to notarise lease contract signed with the property owner. It is one of the prerequisites to obtain residence permit for non-EU students, but also serves as a safeguard for exercising your rights as a leaseholder, especially for students staying in Split during the summer semester, due to peak tourist season. Search the list of Public Notaries at the European Directory of Notaries.

If appropriate accommodation is not found before your arrival in Split, temporary accommodation can be found at some hostels and economy-rate hotels in Split and private flats in Split suburban areas: Podstrana, Solin and Kastela.
